Home Folder

Overview
Every user of Unique AI has a private folder in the Knowledge Base called the home folder. It sits at home › YourName and works like the personal folder on your computer: everything in it belongs to you, and nobody else can open it.
The platform uses the home folder to keep things it stores on your behalf: your Context Memory, the personal skills you create for Conduct, and files that assistants or Spaces produce for you, such as a personal dashboard. You can also upload your own files there.
Your organisation does not have to set anything up. The folder exists for every user and is managed by the platform.
Who is it for
All users. You get a home folder whether or not you use the Knowledge Base for anything else. Users with chat roles only can still use the Context Memory and personal skills stored in their home.
Space builders. A Space can point its side panel at a file in the current user's home folder, so every user who opens the Space sees their own version.
Administrators. Nothing to configure. The section What administrators see explains what is and is not visible to you.
Where to find it
Open the Knowledge Base. The folder home is listed first at the top level. Inside it you see exactly one folder, the one with your name. For example, Maria Müller sees:
Knowledge Base › home › MariaMüller
Colleagues who open home see only their own folder, never yours. Knowledge Base search finds files in your home folder, and the result path shows home › YourName › ….
How the folder is named
The name comes from your display name, with spaces and punctuation removed. Letters from any alphabet are kept, including umlauts and accents, so Fabian Schläpfer becomes
FabianSchläpfer. Dots, underscores and hyphens inside the name are allowed. If no display name is available, your first and last name are used, then your sign-in name.
If two people would get the same name, the second one gets a number:
MariaMüller-2.Names are at most 64 characters long.
The name is fixed when the folder is created. It does not change if your profile name changes later.
When it is created
Existing users receive their home folder when their organisation upgrades. New users receive it when their account is created. If for some reason it is missing, it is created the first time something needs it, for example the first time Context Memory saves something for you. Service accounts do not get a home folder.
What is inside
Folder | Created by | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| The platform | Your Context Memory, stored as |
| Conduct | Your personal skills, one subfolder per Conduct Space. A skill saved here is offered only in the Space that created it and shows up as Personal under Settings › Skills. See Skills in Unique AI Conduct. |
Other folders and files | Assistants, Spaces, or you | Anything an assistant saves for you, such as a dashboard or client notes, and anything you upload yourself. |
What you can and cannot do
Where | You can | You cannot |
|---|---|---|
The home folder itself | Upload files, create subfolders, open and search everything in it. | Rename, move, or delete it. Share it or change who has access. Change its file ingestion settings. These restrictions apply to everyone, including administrators. |
Folders the platform created | Add, edit, rename and delete files and subfolders. Remove access that someone already has. | Give anyone access to the folder or to a file in it. Move the folder or its files out of your home. Move a folder that is shared with other people into it. |
Folders you create yourself | Everything you can do in any folder you own, including sharing a single subfolder with a colleague. | Move it out of your home if it is one of the platform-managed folders described above. |
The Access panel tells you when a folder is managed by the platform: it shows the note Access to this folder is managed by the platform. Existing access can be removed but not added.
Folders that already existed inside a home folder before the sharing restriction was introduced are treated like platform-created folders, including folders users created by hand. New folders you create afterwards are ordinary folders.
Who can see it
Only you. Other users do not see your home folder, cannot open it, and do not find its files in search. Regular administrators do not see it either.
What administrators see
You do not see other users' home folders or their contents, and you cannot change the sharing or permissions of the home folder or of any user's home.
Data administrators have a Show hidden folders switch in the Knowledge Base. It reveals the system folders the platform manages and is meant for support cases. It is off by default.
The root folder names
homeandhome-*, and any folder directly under/home, are reserved. You cannot create, rename or move a folder to one of these names.
Using the home folder from Spaces and assistants
Space side panel. In the advanced settings of a Space, the auto-open side panel can point at a path such as
$HOME/some-path/dashboard.html.$HOMEand$UNIQUE_HOMEresolve to the current user's home folder. If the file does not exist yet for that user, the shared file picked in the Space opens instead.HTML previews. An HTML page shown in Unique AI can load a Knowledge Base file from a
$HOME/folder/filepath, and a setup page can copy a template into your home folder and open it.Assistants and agents. Assistants such as Remy save the work they do for one person into that person's home folder. Each user gets their own copy and nobody else sees it.
API and paths. Folder paths such as
/home/YourName/reportsresolve only for the user who owns the home. The older path/home-<userId>still works as an alias for your own home, so existing automations keep working.
Limitations
The folder name is set once and does not follow later changes to your profile name.
The home folder cannot be deleted. You can delete what is inside it.
Files and folders inside
user-memoryandskills-conductcannot be shared with other users.Connectors such as SharePoint do not sync into home folders.
Existing
personal-<user id>skill folders from before personal skills moved into the home folder are not moved automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is my Context Memory the same thing as my home folder?
No. Context Memory is one file inside your home folder, in user-memory. The home folder can hold other files too.
Can I share a file from my home folder with a colleague?
If the file is in a folder you created yourself, yes, by sharing that folder. If it is in a folder the platform created, move a copy to a team folder instead.
I used to have a folder called home-<some id> at the top of the Knowledge Base. Where did it go?
That was the earlier version of the home folder. It has been moved to home › YourName with all its contents. Links and automations that use the old path still open your current home folder.
Can an administrator read my home folder?
Not through the normal Knowledge Base. Administrators do not see other users' home folders. Data administrators can reveal the platform's system folders with the Show hidden folders switch, which is intended for support.
